Clinical Efficacy of Diethylamine Chromone Carboxylate (Fludarene^(¢ç)) in Patients with Diabetic Neuropathy

Abstract
20 patients with diabetic neuropathy were treated with an aldose reductase inhibitor (Fludarene¢ç). Daily dose was 600mg for 4 weeks. Response was assessed according to a 0-4 scale for pain and single maximal breathing test for cardiac autonomic nerve function. 11 patients had moderate to marked relief of symptoms, 3 had mild responses, and 6 had no change. During the course of treatment autonomic nerve function improved significantly in 5 of 8 patients tested. Little toxicity was observed. These observation suggest that an aldose reductase inhibitor (Fludarene¢ç) may be effective and safe in the treatment of symptomatic peripheral and autonomic neuropathies complicating diabetes.
